GAP Sites
UNDERSTANDING GAP SITES – HOW BLUE BUSINESS WATER CAN HELP YOUR BUSINESS STAY COMPLIANT
All non-domestic properties connected to the Scottish Water network must pay for the water and waste services they receive. While domestic charges are included in council tax, businesses and other non-household premises are billed by a licensed provider, such as Blue.
A Gap Site refers to a property that is connected to Scottish Water’s infrastructure but isn’t registered to pay for its water, wastewater, or drainage services. If you own or occupy a business premises that’s receiving water services but hasn’t been billed by a licensed provider, you may be classed as a Gap Site.
HOW CAN I TELL IF MY PREMISES IS A GAP SITE?
If you’ve never received a water services invoice from a licensed provider, your premises could be a Gap Site. For leased premises, it’s possible your landlord is covering the water charges within your rent or invoicing you separately.
Fortunately, Blue can check the central water industry records to confirm if your premises is registered. If it is, we’ll provide you with the Supply Point ID linked to your site.
HOW DO I REGISTER MY PREMISES WITH SCOTTISH WATER?
All non-domestic properties must be registered through a licensed provider. Blue can handle this on your behalf — just complete and return our Gap Site registration form, and we’ll take care of checking your status and submitting the application to Scottish Water.
IF YOUR PREMISES IS ALREADY REGISTERED:
We’ll confirm who your current licensed provider is, supply your Supply Point ID, and give you an estimate of your charges. We can also show how much you could save by switching to Blue — it’s easy to make the move by completing a simple transfer form.
IF YOUR PREMISES ISN’T REGISTERED:
We’ll apply to Scottish Water to get your premises registered. In some cases, Scottish Water may arrange a site visit or complete a remote check. Once registered, charges will apply from the date of activation or from when any meter was installed.
RECEIVED A LETTER FROM SCOTTISH WATER?
Scottish Water may contact owners or occupiers if they find unregistered premises on the non-domestic register. If you’ve had a letter, Blue can help — just return the Gap Site form along with a copy of the letter, and we’ll handle the rest.
